Safety Research Programmes
As per its mandate, AERB promotes research and development efforts in the areas of safety. The same is reflected in the governing document of Integrated Management System (IMS) of AERB.
Safety research in AERB provides for a) identification of research and development needs in support of its core regulatory functions and b) to conduct research activities by itself with the available resources at AERB or by engaging external expert organisations in participative or collaborative research activities or by sponsoring research activities in academic institutions and research centres.
Towards enhancing effectiveness and integration of safety research, an Advisory Committee for Safety Research (ACSR) was constituted by Chairman, AERB to advise and recommend on the matters related to safety research.
The Advisory Committee reviews, recommends and advises on generic safety research topics / issues that are of interest to AERB. The committee provides guidance for proper coordination of safety research activities with DAE units and academic institutes in collaborative mode. Further, ACSR evaluates and recommends funding of safety related research projects submitted by academic institutions / research laboratories. It periodically reviews the progress, provides guidance and recommends renewals / extensions depending on the progress of the projects.
The Safety Research Institute, co-ordinates and monitors research funding & Grant-in-Aid activity of AERB. Project proposal can be submitted to ACSR by following the guidelines given in brochure for safety research programmes. The areas of relevance to AERB are given in Annexure XIII of brochure.
