Public Communication and Outreach
Public communication and outreach is one of the important functions of AERB. AERB keeps informed and create awareness among the general public, including those residing in the vicinity of nuclear facilities, about the facts on nuclear and radiation safety, its own role and decisions taken during normal as well as low probability emergency situations. All necessary information for public is made available through its periodic newsletters, annual reports, press releases, etc. published on its website. AERB’s website plays a pivotal role in keeping the public informed. AERB also interacts directly with public in awareness programmes/scientific events conducted in the various parts of the country. Amidst the Covid-19 situation, AERB conducts webinars/ participates in on-line forums to ensure its continuous efforts towards public awareness.

Frequently Asked Questions
Radiation is energy in motion. The simplest and well-known example of radiation is either light from sun or heat felt from the fire. Radiation can be either ionizing or non-ionizing in nature. Non-Ionizing radiation is the kind of radiation that does not have sufficient energy to remove an electron (ionize) from an atom (e.g., radio waves, microwaves, infrared radiation, visible light, lasers, ultraviolet light, radar etc.), whereas ionizing radiation is the radiation that has sufficient energy to eject electrons from atoms i.e. ionize atoms (e.g., alpha particles, beta particles, neutrons, gamma rays, and x-rays etc.).
